LASIK Alternatives Edison
LASIK is an excellent option for many New Jersey patients who are looking for a long-term solution to their vision problems and want to eliminate their nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. What’s more, our experienced opthamologists will make sure you that you know exactly what to expect from your LASIK procedure.
However, the fact remains that not everyone is a sound candidate for the LASIK procedure.
Fortunately, at Patel Eye Associates we offer a range of LASIK variations and alternatives. This way, we can provide you with the improved vision you desire using a safe and appropriate treatment.
LASIK alternatives include:
- PRK: Short for “photorefractive keratectomy,” PRK can be an excellent solution for patients who have problems that can be addressed by LASIK but also possess corneas that are too thin to permit a LASIK procedure. Unlike LASIK which creates a hinged, corneal flap that allows Dr. Patel to access and reshape your cornea, PRK removes the outer layer of your eye, called the epithelium. This allows patients with thin corneas to achieve the excellent vision correction results they desire.
- LASEK: A variation on PRK, LASEK is appropriate if your corneas are either too thin or too steep for LASIK. In this procedure, we will gently move the ultra-thin layer of material covering your cornea so that we can re-shape the cornea using a surgical laser.
- Epi-LASIK: A cross between LASIK and LASEK, we again remove the thin layer of material, but instead use a blunt, oscillating blade in place of a scalpel or laser.
- Conductive Keratoplasty: “CK” is a non-laser surgical procedure that uses radio waves to re-shape your cornea and address presbyopia or mild hyperopia.
Our New Jersey eye surgeons will make sure you undergo the LASIK or LASIK alternative procedure that is right for your specific needs.
